If you’ve been thinking about getting fuller, larger breasts, you know that you have many decisions when it comes to the size, shape and implant material. How do you decide? Read on to learn about the different options for breast implants.

Silicone or saline implants?

FDA-approved for women age 22 or older, silicone breast implants are the most popular because they consist of a gel that feels like natural breast tissue. In case of implant rupture, the gel may stay in the shell or leak into the implant pocket. You may not notice that it is leaking, which is why you have to visit your surgeon regularly to ensure the implants have maintained their structural integrity.

FDA-approved for women age 18 and older, saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and inserted into the breast implant pocket before they are filled. This allows for smaller incisions and custom sizing during surgery. One of the biggest draws to saline implants is the fact that if there is a leak in the shell, the implant will collapse and the water will be naturally absorbed and expelled by the body. The IDEAL IMPLANT is another saline option that offers additional structure and shape.

How do I choose the right size?

With the aid of the Vectra 3D imaging system, Dr. Price can show you what your body would look like with different implant sizes. This helps you feel more comfortable and confident in making decisions about size as you plan surgery.

Where will the implants be placed?

There are two options for breast implant placement. The preferred method of placement is the submuscular implant placement. This consists of placing the implant beneath the pectoral muscle and above the chest wall to create a natural pocket. There is less of a chance for noticeable wrinkling or rippling with this placement, and it looks more natural.

The other placement type is the subglandular method. With subglandular placement, the breast implant is placed behind the breast tissue and in front of the pectoral muscle. This is recommended for women who have sagging but don’t want a breast lift.

There are so many things to consider when electing to undergo breast augmentation surgery. Women have choices when selecting the right implant type, which makes it one of the toughest decisions. The IDEAL IMPLANT is a state-of-the-art structured implant that has several advantages over other implant types. Read on to learn the differences between implants.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are not as popular as silicone gel implants because they don’t have the natural feel of breast tissue. If the implant ruptures, it will deflate as the saltwater leaks into the body and is expelled naturally. These implants are FDA-approved for use in women ages 18 and older.

Silicone Gel Implants

Silicone gel implants have been the most popular implant type as they look the best and feel most natural. However, these implants can rupture. The danger is not knowing it has ruptured, which is called a “silent rupture.” The gel may stay in the shell, or it may leak into the breast implant pocket. It’s only detectable by an MRI scan, which is something you need every 2-3 years as recommended by the FDA. These implants are FDA-approved for use in women ages 22 and older.

IDEAL IMPLANTS

IDEAL IMPLANTS combine the safety of saline with the natural feel that silicone gel implants provide. For IDEAL IMPLANTS, a series of implant shells are “nested” together, and two chambers hold the saline filler. This unique structure controls the movement of the saline for a more natural feel. It also reduces folding and wrinkling, another concern that patients have when deciding between implant types. An IDEAL IMPLANT also has a lower rupture risk. If a rupture occurs, you can tell by looking at the breast. IDEAL IMPLANTS are approved for ages 18-22, whereas silicone gel is FDA-approved for women 22 years old and older.

Breast augmentations continue to be the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure, with more than 300,000 surgeries performed annually in the United States. To learn more about breast augmentation, schedule a thorough consultation with Dr. Price by calling (203) 453-6635 today.

IDEAL IMPLANT Guilford, CTLet’s talk breast implants. Just like with most things in life, you have options to choose from when you are considering a breast augmentation. You get to choose the size of the implant, the shape of the implant (round or teardrop), the incision location, and most importantly, the type of implant that is going to give you the results you want.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Gary J. Price, you will go over all of these options and specifically, whether you want to go with a saline or silicone implant. But if you are stuck on what type of implant to get, you may want to make the ideal choice and go with the IDEAL IMPLANT.

What Is the IDEAL IMPLANT?

Nothing is more natural than water— even salt water— right? Saline implants are filled with salt water which gives patients peace of mind that if their implant were to rupture, it wouldn’t cause them any harm or damage. However, many patients opt not to get saline implants because they have a hard texture and a poignant round appearance.

One of the many benefits of The IDEAL IMPLANT is that it is designed differently than traditional saline implants. Its unique structure contains an inner shell which holds the saline and an outer shell that holds an outer saline filler. Between both of these shells are one to three baffle shells which give patients peace of mind, and a natural appearance and texture.

With traditional silicone implants, it’s difficult for patients to detect if they have a leak which in rare instances can sometimes lead to health issues.

If you have been wanting to get breast implants but aren’t sure what kind to get, schedule a consultation with Dr. Gary J. Price. During your initial consultation, he will go over all of your options to ensure that you pick the best one for you. Contact our Guilford office today to learn more!
