What can a brow lift do for you?

Beauty woman healthy skin fresh clean beautiful faceIf you have been thinking about having a procedure to make changes to your face, such as a facelift or nose job, you may not even realize that making changes to your brow is an option. But the state of your brow can make a big difference to how your face looks – wrinkles and lines on this part of the face can make you look older than you really are. If you are looking for a way to look younger and revitalized, a brow lift may be the answer!

What is a brow lift?

The brow is the area of the face from the eyebrows up. Wrinkles appear there over time because of the sun, lifestyle, age, and other factors. In a brow lift procedure, excess skin and tissue are removed, wrinkles and lines are erased, and drooping eyebrows are toned up, making the eyes look more alert and awake.

What are the benefits of getting a brow lift?

One benefit of a brow lift is that it is a way to get dramatic results that are long lasting, especially compared to other procedures such as Botox injections. Another benefit is that any scaring is minimal, and any incisions can be placed underneath the hairline so that any scarring can’t be seen anyway.

Yet another good thing about brow lifts is that the recovery time is fairly quick. There may be some swelling and bruising, but this will be gone within a couple of weeks. Patients should wait for about 10 days before going back to work, and strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month.

Most people don’t think about their brow and how it can affect how they look. A brow lift can take a sagging, wrinkled brow that can make you look old, tired, and angry and transform it into toned, refreshed, and younger looking skin. It can make a big difference! Contact the office of Dr. Gary J. Price for a brow lift consultation to find out what this procedure can do for you. Call the office in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, at (203) 453-6635 today!

What is IPL?

Beautiful young asian woman with clean fresh skin on white backgroundWhat is IPL? It is a noninvasive, nonsurgical, yet very effective way to take care of a variety of skin problems and to make skin look fresh and revitalized. Read on for some more information about IPL and why it might be right for you!

How does IPL work?

“IPL” stands for “intense pulsed light.” A simple hand-held device is passed over the skin and pulses of light are sent into the deep layers of skin. It can target very specific problem areas to destroy skin damage. IPL can be used to treat:

• Spider veins

• Rosacea (redness in the cheeks)

• Uneven/unwanted pigment

• Age spots

• Sun damage

What is the procedure to get IPL?

You will be given eye shields to protect your eyes from the light, and a gel will be applied to the area where you will have the treatment. The handpiece is then moved across the skin to be treated – and that’s it! It typically only takes a few minutes, although more than one treatment will usually be needed. IPL can be used on the chest, hands, and face.

Most patients report there is no pain – at most there is a sensation on the skin much like a rubber-band snap. A cooling gel may be applied to the skin afterwards. After the treatment you’ll notice an immediate difference, and your skin will continue to improve over the next few weeks.

There are no bandages to wear after the procedure and no downtime. You may notice some redness and feel like you have a sunburn for a few days. You should avoid going out in the sun. There are also specific instructions you should follow in the weeks leading up to your procedure, such as avoiding the sun and tanning beds for about a month before – your doctor will go over all of the precautions you will need to take.

IPL is a very effective way to deal with skin blemishes. To discuss IPL and what it can do for you, contact Dr. Gary J. Price for a consultation. Call the office in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, at (203) 453-6635 today!

What is Sculptra?

Are you looking for a nonsurgical, quick way to refresh the skin, make it look younger, and bring back some of the volume that you had when you were younger? Have you tried expensive face creams and serums with little to no result? As we age the face can lose volume and the skin can start to look old, but we don’t have to live with this if we don’t want to. Sculptra is an injectable that may be the answer for you!

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable filler made from poly-L-lactic acid, a material that can restore volume where you want a bit of plumpness in the face. It also helps to improve the structure of the skin by getting deep inside of it and restoring the collagen matrix back to its younger state. This means long-term benefits, because as new skin grows it looks younger, smoother, and softer.

It is safe, FDA approved, and does not require allergy testing. Unlike other fillers, which may have effects that only last for a few months, the effects of Sculptra can last 2 years or more.

What is Sculptra used for?

As we age, we all lose some volume in the facial skin, and sun and age can damage the skin down into the deep layers. Sculptra restores some of that volume and helps to fix damaged skin. It can be used in the cheeks, jowls, and temples. It can also help to soften deep folds on the face.

You’ll start to see the effects of Sculptra within about 6 weeks. Immediately after the injection you may have some swelling and bruising for a few days.

Sculptra can be used with other nonsurgical treatments, such as laser treatments, to give you the exact facial contours and the youthful and rejuvenated skin that you want. If you are interested in a nonsurgical way to restore volume and youth to the skin on your face, contact the offices of Dr. Gary J. Price today for a Sculptra consultation. Call the office in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, at (203) 453-6635!

Now is the time for liposuction!

Summer is the time to get outdoors, enjoy the nice weather, be active, and have fun. Winter is the perfect time to stay indoors and read a good book or catch up on your favorite shows. It turns out that winter is also the perfect time to schedule that plastic surgery procedure you’ve been considering. Read on for other reasons why now is the time to contact Dr. Gary J. Price for your liposuction procedure!

What is liposuction?

Liposuction improves the contour of the body while providing the perfect proportions you crave. Suction is used to remove fat from the body, and it can be used for the face and neck, arms, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen.

Why are fall and winter perfect seasons for liposuction?

There are several reasons why the colder months are a great time for a plastic surgery procedure:

  1. Liposuction is a quick, outpatient procedure that doesn’t require a stay in the hospital. You will, however, want to relax and recover at home for a couple of weeks. You’ll have some swelling and bruising, and you should avoid strenuous activity for about 2 weeks. Ugly winter weather is the perfect excuse to stay inside and heal.
  2. Speaking of healing, the final results of liposuction can take up to 6 months to see, although you’ll start to notice changes within a few weeks  – if you get the process started now, you’ll look great just in time for bikini season.
  3. After the procedure you’ll need to wear compression garments. Fluffy, bulky winter clothes are a perfect way to hide these.
  4. Does your office shut its doors over the holidays? Or maybe it just feels like it is shut down, because almost everyone takes time off? Either way, the slow season at work is yet another reason why winter is a great time to schedule that procedure.

Schedule your liposuction procedure now so that you can show off your new body when it gets warm! Contact the offices of Dr. Gary J. Price, in New Haven and Fairfield County, CT, for a liposuction consultation. Call (203) 453-6635 today!

5 Ways Plastic Surgery Can Help After Weight Loss

Cropped close up photo of shirtless sexy tempting muscular attractive man's torso, man is keeping hands on hips isolated on gray background copy-spacLosing weight isn’t easy – especially if there is a lot of it to lose. When you do lose weight, very often you have excess skin and fat that you can’t get rid of, which can make it difficult to see the results you want and deserve to see after all the work you’ve done. If you’ve dieted and exercised for years and still don’t have the body you want, Dr. Gary Price can help, with a variety of plastic surgery options.

One or more of these procedures can help:

  1. Mastopexy. Very often, when weight is lost, it can dramatically reduce volume in the breasts, making them look droopy. Mastopexy, also known as a “breast lift,” can restore sagging breasts and help them to look younger and firmer.
  2. Facelift. Losing a lot of weight can mean sagging skin in and around the face, jaw, and chin. A facelift can remove this and help to contour and tone the skin.
  3. Abdominoplasty (“tummy tuck”). A tummy tuck can tighten and smooth the muscles and remove excess skin that remains in the stomach area after weight loss.
  4. Liposuction. This procedure can get rid of those extra bits of fat that remain in the hips, buttocks, and other areas of the body, to make you look more toned and make your body look more proportional.
  5. A body lift. A body lift can be used to attend to many areas of the body, all in one procedure, that have been affected by a lot of weight loss. It gets rid of excess skin and provides tone and contour for the abdomen, thighs, arms, buttocks, and hips.

Losing weight is a big accomplishment, and it is definitely something to celebrate. However, it can be hard to really feel good about it when you look in the mirror and don’t see the body you want to see. With one of these procedures from Dr. Gary J. Price, you can finally have the body you’ve worked so hard for and deserve. Call the office in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, at (203) 453-6635 to discuss your options today!

Is it possible to breastfeed after a breast procedure?

caring mother breastfeeding baby boy in bedroomIf you have been considering a breast procedure, you probably have a lot of questions – one of which may be how a breast procedure, such as breast augmentation, a breast lift, or breast implants, will affect your future pregnancies and the ability to breastfeed. It is important to bring up these questions with your doctor, but for now, here is some basic information about how a breast procedure can impact future motherhood.

Can I breastfeed after a procedure?

Breast procedures include breast augmentation, using either the patient’s own tissue or implants; a breast lift (also known as mastopexy), which not only lifts breasts but gives them a firmness and an aesthetically pleasing shape; and a breast reduction, which reduces the weight and size of breasts.

For most patients, future milk production is not affected by a breast procedure. In a breast lift or reduction, the breast tissue that enables milk production is left intact; in a breast implant procedure, the implants are placed in such a way that they don’t interfere with milk ducts or mammary glands. A woman will have a more productive milk supply if 5 years or more have passed since the breast procedure, according to the La Leche League, a group that strives to encourage women and educate them about the benefits of breastfeeding.

But keep in mind….

If you do become pregnant and decide to breastfeed after a breast procedure, this can alter the work that you have had done, as both of these can really change a woman’s body! For this reason, you may want to consider putting any breast procedure off until you are done having children and breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding can be a wonderful experience, one that not only nourishes your baby but gives the two of you the chance to bond, and it is an experience that you will look back on fondly for the rest of your life. If you are thinking about having a breast procedure but you have questions, Dr. Gary J. Price, in New Haven and Fairfield County, CT, can help. Call (203) 453-6635 for a breast procedure consultation today!

Beautiful Lashes, Beautiful Eyes, With Latisse!

Woman eye with long eyelashes. Space for text.Eyelashes are tiny things, but they sure can make a difference. If someone has lush, beautiful, long lashes, people notice. But what if your lashes could do with some improvement – or what if they are falling out altogether? You have a few options, from adjusting your diet and beauty routine to beginning Latisse treatments!

Why am I losing eyelashes?

Most people lose at least a few eyelashes every day, which is completely normal. Some people may have a medical condition that results in excessive eyelash loss, such as an eyelid inflammation, scleroderma, or hyper- or hypothyroidism. Chemotherapy can also cause eyelash loss.

There are other reasons you may be losing eyelashes, though. If you wear mascara and notice a lot of eyelashes falling out, you may be allergic to that brand or to mascara altogether. Also, make sure you gently take off mascara before bed, because it can make eyelashes brittle and break easily. If you use an eyelash curler, use it carefully so that it doesn’t pull out eyelashes, and when you remove makeup you should also do so carefully.

Is there a way to make eyelashes grow?

You can try a multivitamin or a vitamin that is specifically meant to promote the health of hair, skin, and nails. Iron, vitamins A and C, and niacin are good for hair and eyelashes.

You can also start indulging in certain foods – those high in biotin and protein promote the body’s production of keratin, which is good for eyelash health. Biotin can be found in kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and in whole grains.

Latisse is also another great option. It is an FDA-approved serum that darkens and lengthens lashes. With Latisse, you’ll start to see longer, fuller eyelashes within about 4 months. And, it is easy to use – all you have to do is apply it to the upper lashes before bed.

Long, beautiful lashes can be yours! If vitamins and diet aren’t getting you the results you want, contact the offices of Dr. Gary J. Price in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, for a Latisse consultation. Call (203) 453-6635 today!

Are facial implants right for you?

Beautiful Woman Face Skin Care. Natural Make up. Skin Health Treatment. Model massaging Face by Hands. Beige Studio background. Fashion Girl with Closed eyesIf you have been looking in the mirror and considering making some changes to your appearance, you may be wondering what your options are. You should know that you have other choices besides plastic surgery and dermal fillers – facial implants are an effective and quick way to see the changes you want.

What are facial implants?

Facial implants are a way to mold your cheeks, jaw, or chin exactly how you want them, by giving them new contours and definition. Implants can be made of a soft silicone material, or the patient’s own fat can be taken from one area of the body (such as the thighs or stomach) and transplanted to the face. Which material is used depends on what your cosmetic surgery goals are and what your doctor thinks would be right for you.

Silicone implants improve the contour of the face and can help the cheekbones, chin, or jaw to look more prominent. There are many shapes and sizes to choose from, or the patient can have a custom-made implant.

Fat can be used to restore lost volume in the face, to restore areas such as hollow areas under the eyes, cheeks, saggy jaws, and the area between the lips and the chin or between the nose and the lips. It has a very natural look to it, and it is very safe to use with no chance of rejection because it comes from your own body.

What are the benefits of facial implants?

The procedure to get a facial implant is performed relatively quickly, on an outpatient basis. Patients typically report that beyond some swelling and bruising after the procedure (which an ice pack can reduce), there is little pain. The results are dramatic and long lasting – they can last forever, as opposed to fillers and other alternatives, which may last for a few months or a few years.

Facial implants can give your face the contour, definition, and balance that you want to see when you look in the mirror. Call the office of Dr. Gary J. Price, in New Haven and Fairfield County, CT, at (203) 453-6635 for an facial implant consultation today!

Preparing for Your Plastic Surgery Procedure

Whether you are going to have a face lift, a tummy tuck, or a nose job, there are some things you should know about preparing for a plastic surgery procedure. Your doctor will, of course, give you specific instructions for what to do before and after the surgery – but here are a few things to keep in mind to make your procedure and your recovery a success.

Get help in advance

After any procedure, you should have someone to drive you home. You might even want someone to stay with you overnight, to help take care of you. If you have young children, having some help is definitely something you should arrange in advance.

Prepare your home

If you can’t have someone there to take care of you every minute as you recover, there are some things you can do before the procedure to make things easier on yourself after the procedure. You can prepare a few meals ahead of time, make sure you have your favorite snacks on hand, and prepare a good place to relax, such as having a good book and the remote near your favorite spot on the sofa.

Prepare yourself

Even if you are getting a tummy tuck to get rid of some extra fat, this is no time to start pigging out on junk food and giving up on your exercise routine. Eating right and staying in shape right up until the day of the procedure can help your body heal faster.

Your doctor will give you a list of medications to stop taking, as well as details on when you should stop taking them. Generally, patients should stop taking anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen and aspirin, a couple of weeks before surgery. Don’t forget to ask your doctor about herbal medications or supplements, to see if you should stop taking them as well.

Take the time to prepare yourself and your home before your procedure so that you can have a quick and comfortable recovery. If you are interested in a plastic surgery procedure or have questions about an upcoming surgery, contact Dr. Gary J. Price in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT. Call (203) 453-6635 today!

6 Reasons to Get a Breast Augmentation

Close up of young woman measuring her bust size with tape measureYou may be on the fence about getting breast augmentation – should you spend the money? What will it look like when it’s complete? Will it be worth it? Here are 6 reasons why now is a great time to get a breast augmentation!

  1. This one is #1 for a reason – breast augmentation can do wonders for your confidence and your outlook on life. Have you lost a lot of weight, along with some fullness in your chest? Have you always been self-conscious about your chest? Has it always been the one part of your body you wish you could change? There’s no need to feel self-conscious anymore, thanks to a breast augmentation procedure.
  2. You don’t have to wonder or worry about what the final look will be. State-of-the art technology such as the Vectra 3D imaging system can let you see what you will look like after augmentation. You can even compare implants of different sizes to help you choose which one is right for you.
  3. The recovery time from breast augmentation surgery is relatively quick. Your downtime will probably be less than 2 weeks, and you can get back to strenuous activity after about 4 to 6 weeks – not too bad, considering the dramatic and impressive results you’ll see.
  4. You’ll see results for years. Implants are long-lasting, and most will last for about 15 years, but some can even last a lifetime.
  5. Breast augmentation is a safe procedure. It is true that any surgical procedure carries some risk, but breast implants have a safe history, with few reports of complications or adverse effects.
  6. You have your choice of implant. Choose from saline, silicone, and Ideal. Each one has different advantages and disadvantages, which your doctor can discuss with you.

Honestly, any time is a great time for a breast augmentation, as long as the time is right for you. When you decide to go ahead and do it, call Dr. Gary J. Price for a breast augmentation consultation. Call the office in New Haven or Fairfield County, CT, (203) 453-6635 for an appointment!
