What is Sculptra?
Although it is a filler, Sculptra differs from hyaluronic acid fillers used to rejuvenate the skin. It is made from a material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is a biodegradable and biocompatible substance used to create dissolvable stitches. However, it has been approved by the FDA to correct loss of facial fat and volume. Sculptra lasts for two years or more once injected, and is very useful in the cheeks, temples, and jowls. Another advantage of this filler is that it doesn’t require allergy testing.
How does Sculptra work?
The ingredients in Sculptra make it a unique treatment to effectively replace the volume in the skin lost through aging. As it returns volume, Sculptra also creates long-term changes in the structure of the skin by manipulating its natural collagen matrix. This improves the skin structure and appearance from its deeper roots to the surface. The result is smoother, softer, plumper, and younger-looking skin.
What does Sculptra treat?
Dr. Price provides Sculptra treatments to soften the hollow areas of the face. The cheeks lose their natural contour as we age, which is why this filler is an ideal treatment. Sculptra can also be injected to soften the deeper folds on the face as well. Unlike many other fillers that last only months, Sculptra lasts up to two or more years.
*What can I expect after Sculptra injections?
Right after your session, most patients experience swelling in the treated area for a day or two. Bruising may occur, but can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, and similar medications for two weeks before the treatment. Dr. Price will provide you with specific post-treatment instructions to help you recover from the treatment and maximize the effects of Sculptra. These include massaging the treated area during your recovery period to even out the distribution of the filler. The results of sculptra become gradually apparent over six weeks following the treatment.
