Saline Vs Silicone Implants: Getting Back to Basics

Breast LiftLife is full of options. You get to choose what you have for lunch, where you want to work, and nowadays, you can choose what you want to look like with the help of doctors like Dr. Gary J. Price. One of the options in particular that Dr. Gary J Price prides himself on is the different breast implant options that we offer at our office. Whether you want firm, soft, round, or teardrop shaped implants, we have several options for you to choose from with the help of Dr. Gary J. Price and our staff.

Saline

Saline implants are available to suitable patients over the age of 18 and are popular because they are filled with an all-natural saltwater solution. Unlike silicone implants, one of the unique things about saline implants is that they are filled up with the saline solution during the surgery— not beforehand— which helps give Dr. Gary J. Price a little bit more flexibility in the surgical process itself.

Silicone

Silicone implants are available to patients who are over the age of 22. Silicone implants are popular amongst patients because they give a more natural look and feel than saline implants. Another benefit of silicone implants is that if the implant gets a rupture in it, they won’t collapse which gives patients more time to have it fixed without having to deal with too much embarrassment.

Just like with all things, there are pros and cons to both saline and silicone implants. During your initial consultation, we will help you decide what size, shape, and texture of implant is best for you and your body. Enhance Your Recovery Following Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast Augmentation NYCEven though breast augmentation surgery is the number one cosmetic surgical procedure, it’s a serious decision with many things to think about – like what happens after the surgery and what to expect for your recovery.

The time-frame for returning to work and other physical activities following a typical breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular concerns our patients have. Dr. Price will tell you when you will be allowed to resume normal activities, but keep in mind that each patient is different, each body is unique, and healing times can vary. Many of our patients find they are able to resume their normal routine two weeks following surgery; a full recovery is expected at six to eight weeks.

Here are some useful guidelines:

  • Monitor your pain tolerance and how much and how often you are taking your prescribed medications. It is advisable that you do not return to work while still relying on these medications. That, of course, depends on the type of work you do. Consider taking at least a week off work if your job is sedentary and longer if your job is physically demanding.
  • Straightforward breast augmentation should not require a lengthy recovery. The majority of patients do not require pain medication for more than a few days.
  • Typically, you should not lift more than 20 pounds for at least two weeks following your augmentation procedure. This allows time for your muscles to fully heal. It is also important that you do not pull or strain the surgical sites and that you avoid any activities where your breasts bounce up and down.

The bottom line is to allow your body to heal naturally while you ease back into your work and daily activities. Listen to your body and never hesitate to call our office should you have questions or concerns. We want your augmentation experience to be positive, life-changing and successful.
