Sedation Dentistry
Moderate Sedation- IV and Oral Conscious Sedation
Dentistry can be made so much more positive for many patients with sedation. For patients who need multiple teeth worked on in a single appointment dental sedation can make the appointment more relaxing and go by quicker. Conscious sedation is moderate sedation in which the patient is conscious and can respond to verbal commands, but is in a deeply relaxed state. Patients who are moderately sedated are less bothered by the lights and sounds of dental procedures making for a much more enjoyable experience. Patients need to have a consultation in our office to review their medical and dental history prior to being cleared for IV or Oral Conscious Sedation.
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous oxide was pioneered by CT dentist Horace Wells in the 1840s. Nitrous oxide is helpful in reducing anxiety during a dental procedure. Nitrous oxide has no after effects and patients can safely drive home after their appointment. Nitrous oxide is sometimes combined with an oral sedative.
