Cosmetic Procedures for Men

topless athletic manContrary to what some people might think, cosmetic procedures aren’t just for women. After all, everyone wants to look and feel their best, and everyone has flaws they wish they could correct – even men! Read on for some more information about cosmetic procedures for men and how they can benefit you!

Gynecomastia

“Gynecomastia” is the medical term for enlarged male breasts, which can be treated with male breast reduction. Enlarged male breasts are actually very common, and they may be the result of excess weight gain or a reaction to certain medications. Male breast reduction is an outpatient procedure where excess fat and tissue are removed to reduce the size of breasts.

Liposuction

Liposuction may also be used to reduce male breast size, and it is also used to get rid of fat that you just can’t seem to get rid of through diet and exercise. Liposuction can be used on the abdomen, thighs, face, neck, and arms.

Injectables

Different injectables can do different things: Botox, Dysport, and Juvéderm can help to reduce wrinkles, and Restylane can help to smooth wrinkles and can replace lost volume. These injectables provide great results, and they can be done very quickly – many patients have an injectable procedure done on their lunch hour and then get right back into their day. Ask your doctor if there is an injectable that can help you!

Rhinoplasty

It isn’t just women who may not like how their nose looks – if you are a man, of course, you may not be happy with your nose, either! Rhinoplasty can help to change the appearance of your nose (thus changing the appearance of your whole face), it can also help to repair a nose that has been damaged through accident or other trauma, and it can also help to correct structural problems that keep you from breathing (and even sleeping) properly.

Everyone has something they would like to change about themselves. Whether you are a man or a woman, Dr. Gary J. Price can help – these listed are just a few procedures to choose from. What you should know about enlarged male breasts

Men who have enlarged breasts may feel self-conscious, but they should know that they aren’t alone. Breast enlargement, or gynecomastia, affects nearly half of adolescent boys and up to two-thirds of middle-age and older men. Here’s what you should know about gynecomastia and how you can get rid of it.

  1. Gynecomastia is characterized by excess localized fat, excess glandular tissue development, and can be present in one or both breasts. Some patients have excess breast skin that needs removal.
  2. Hormonal changes, heredity, obesity and the use of certain drugs are linked to enlarged or overdeveloped breasts. Drugs such as steroids, antibiotics, heartburn treatment drugs, and tricyclic antidepressants are all possible influences. Heavy drinking, weight gain and aging all potentially contribute as well.
  3. Gynecomastia can hurt your self-confidence and cause emotional discomfort. Some men avoid taking off their shirt at the beach or when working out and may avoid other physical activities because of enlarged breasts.
  4. Your breast development needs to stabilize before surgery can be considered. While adolescents could benefit from surgery, they may need future procedures if their breasts continue to develop.
  5. If your condition can’t be corrected with medical treatments such as over-the-counter supplements to regulate hormones, you may be a candidate for surgery for gynecomastia. You should be in good physical health and not smoke.
  6. The best treatment option is to surgically remove excess fatty and glandular tissue. For excess fatty tissue alone, liposuction may be the only thing necessary. For patients who have more severe gynecomastia, liposuction and tissue excision may be necessary.
  7. Incisions are designed to be hidden. Incisions are made around the areola, which is the darkened area around the nipple. This allows the scar to form at the natural border of the areola.
  8. Gynecomastia shouldn’t reoccur after surgery, but steroid or drug use or major weight gain could cause the breasts to grow again.

If you have enlarged male breasts and are bothered by their appearance, call (203) 453-6635 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Price.

Achieve your best beach body with gynecomastia surgery

Many men who have gynecomastia, or enlarged breasts, may be too self-conscious and will avoid certain physical activities and intimacy. But this condition shouldn’t keep you away from enjoying activities, including going shirtless at pools and the beach. Gynecomastia surgery offers many benefits, including improved self-confidence through improved male contouring.

Excess weight gain can be the cause behind some male breast enlargement, but often the cause is a condition called gynecomastia. This can be caused by aging, heavy drinking, certain medications or drug use, or it can be a result of developmental or hormonal changes. Often teenage boys will deal with excess fatty deposits on their chests during puberty, but this usually resolves by adulthood. Unfortunately, some men have enlarged breasts during adulthood, and that’s when gynecomastia surgery comes in.

Men who are unhappy with the appearance of their enlarged breasts are ideal candidates for this surgery. Once men’s breast development has stabilized, they are a good candidate for surgery. Men who are considering surgery must be healthy, close to their normal weight, nonsmokers, with no serious illnesses or medical conditions that would affect recovery.

Also known as male breast reduction surgery, gynecomastia surgery reduces enlarged breasts in men, flatting and enhancing the contours of the chest. This procedure is performed in a few different ways. Liposuction is recommended for those who have excess fatty tissue. Excision is recommended for men who have glandular breast tissue or excess skin that needs to be removed. A combination of liposuction and excision is indicated for some patients for the best results. Each areola may be reduced in size, and nipples may be moved to a more natural male position in the breast.

Recovery from the procedure is short, with minimal residual swelling and soreness. Most patients will return to daily activities within a week or so.

If you’re suffering from low self-esteem and a lack of confidence due to gynecomastia, this procedure may be right for you. To learn more about male breast reduction surgery, call (203) 453-6635 and schedule a consultation with Dr. Price.

How Does Gynecomastia Affect Young and Middle-Aged Men?

Male Breast Reduction Guilford CTWomen want them and men dread getting them; if you are a male who has started to develop breast tissue, then you may suffer from a condition called gynecomastia. And although you may think that there is something wrong with you and that you are some kind of anomaly, it’s very common for men to experience at least some degree of breast enlargement. Common in both teenagers and adults, gynecomastia is treated in different ways depending on how old you are.

In Teens

According to statistics released by the National Institute of Health, about 50-60% of adolescent males suffer from gynecomastia which may come as a surprisingly high number to most people. In young men, gynecomastia is primarily caused by high levels of estrogen during puberty. Luckily, for most boys, their chest will flatten out around their 20’s, but if it doesn’t, then Dr. Gary J. Price may recommend surgery or other treatments.

In Adults

If you thought the statistics for young men with gynecomastia were high, then you may be more surprised. 65% of men between the ages 27-92 experience some form of gynecomastia during this time. There are a variety of factors aside from hormonal imbalances that can cause gynecomastia. These include steroid use, thyroid problems, pituitary gland cancer, alcohol abuse, or even marijuana use.

Gynecomastia Treatment

As previously mentioned, for most teenage boys, their gynecomastia will subside once they reach their 20’s. However, for those who can’t get rid of it on their own, Dr. Gary J. Price may recommend the same surgery as he does for adults. During a male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Price will remove excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breast area to help create a more masculine chest. And although the physical results after this type of surgery are incredible, the emotional results are equally as powerful.

Your Self-Confidence And You – Dealing With Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia in Guilford CT & New Haven Dr. Gary PriceSelf-confidence, self-esteem – buzz words that define the way you feel about yourself – and they often affect your most personal relationships. If you are a guy dealing with abnormal breast enlargement (gynecomastia), physical intimacy and even some sports activities may be emotionally challenging and embarrassing. Maybe you’ve tried rigorous exercise and dieting in hopes of changing the size of your breasts, but have not found them to be effective solutions.

Gynecomastia is the condition of enlarged breasts in men which can occur at any age. It is characterized by excess localized fat and glandular tissue that can be present in one or both breasts. The symptoms are tenderness and swelling of the breast tissue. Gynecomastia is influenced by a variety of causes including diet, aging, hormones, puberty, obesity and the use of some medications or steroids.

Gynecomastia isn’t a serious problem, but it can be difficult to cope with.

The good news? There is a surgical option.

  • Correcting gynecomastia involves a specialized surgery that reduces breast size, thereby flattening and enhancing the contours of the chest. This surgery is also called a “reduction mammaplasty.

If you are physically healthy, your breast development has stabilized and you are embarrassed by the size of your breasts, you would be a good candidate for surgery.

  • The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, using tiny incisions and is usually done without general anesthesia. The condition can sometimes be improved with liposuction alone. Dr. Price will give you instructions for caring for your incisions and the healing process. It is important that your incisions are not subjected to excessive force or motion during healing.
  • During your consultation, be sure to ask Dr. Price any questions you may have about what you can expect during your recovery period.
  • Results are immediately visible and most patients return to work four or five days after surgery, however, several days of discomfort requiring pain medication is normal.

Feel good about yourself…take off your shirt with confidence.
