6 things you need to know about a neck lift

The neck is often overlooked when it comes to restoring the youthful appearance of the face. But a “turkey wattle,” double chin and jowl lines may negate the improvements made to the appearance of the face. When skin on the neck loses its elasticity and sags due to aging or when excess fat makes the neck look heavy, a neck lift procedure can give you a younger-looking neckline. Read on for six things you should know about a neck lift.

  1. A neck lift addresses loose skin, excess fat and weakened muscles in the neck.
  2. This procedure removes unwanted skin and fatty deposits as well as restructure the neck’s underlying muscles.
  3. Turkey wattle neck is a common concern when it comes to the neck. A neck lift will remove excess skin and fat from this area to address this concern.
  4. The incision starts at the sideburn near the hairline and continues along the area around the ear, ending at the back of the hair. The skin of the neck is lifted so that excess fat can be repositioned or sculpted. The neck muscle is tightened at this time as well, and underlying neck tissues are repositioned. Then the skin is draped over the new contour, and incisions are closed with sutures.
  5. Patients will see results just a few days after surgery. Bruising and swelling will gradually disappear, and most patients return to social activities two weeks after surgery.
  6. Good candidates have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for surgery. Candidates for surgery also should be in good general health and do not have medical conditions that may impair healing. You should not smoke for at least two weeks before surgery because smoking interferes with healing.

Your final results from a neck lift will give you a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance and make you feel more confident about yourself. To see whether you are a good candidate for surgery, call (203) 453-6635 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Price.

3 Tips to Make Your Neck Lift Recovery Go Smoother

Neck Lift, Guilford, CT

One of the first places where people start to show signs of aging is on their neck. If you have recently had a mini facelift or a traditional facelift, but feel like your newly tightened skin tends to accentuate your loose skin on your neck, it may be time for a neck lift.

During this surgical procedure, Dr. Gary J. Price will make an incision that starts near your hairline by your sideburn and it will extend all the way to the back of the hair. After that incision has been made, the neck skin will be lifted and excess fat will be repositioned or sculpted. Additionally, the neck muscle which are called the platysma, will be tightened and repositioned. After the appropriate tissues and muscles have been repositioned, the skin will then be draped over the new contours of the neck and then the incisions are closed with sutures.

After surgery, we will then wheel you into a recovery room where you will be monitored typically for several hours or even overnight, and then we will send you home to spend the rest of your recovery. Because recovery after surgery may seem a bit daunting, we have created a list of three things for you to do to help everything go, hopefully, a little bit smoother.

Listen To Your Body

One of the best things that you can do when recovering after a surgery like a neck lift is to really listen to your body. If you are still really sore after the first two weeks (which can be normal) then consider staying home from work or other activities for another couple of days. If, however, you feel your energy returning sooner than this two week mark, you can push yourself a little bit, but still remember to take it easy.

Be Consistent With Wearing Your Neck Wrap

After we send you home from surgery, your neck will be wrapped in a neck wrap that’s designed to give your skin the support it needs in order to fully recover. Make sure that you strictly follow Dr. Price’s orders in regards to how long you should wear this for; that way you can get rid of pain and swelling a lot faster.

Take Pain Medication As Directed

If you are prescribed pain medication by Dr. Price to use after surgery, make sure that you follow all of the instructions listed on the label. The more consistent you are with taking them for the first few days after surgery, the more likely you will be to get better results.

Don’t worry, we will send you home with an even more detailed list of recovery tips after your surgery. To learn more, contact us at our Guildford office and call us at (203) 453-6635.

When Is a Neck Lift Necessary?

Neck Lift Guilford, CTOne of the last things you think about when you’re in your teens and early twenties is your skin because it’s usually more near perfect than you may realize (even if you do have a little acne.) However, as you age, fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of collagen may start to make you think twice. With facelifts, fillers, and Botox, most patients can get a drastically more youthful looking complexion in no time, but one area of the body that ages and is often neglected is the neck. Which leaves many people wondering, when is a neck lift necessary?

It’s Showing Signs Of Aging

All of those hours laying out at the pool or by the beach in your teens and twenties can certainly wreak havoc on your skin— even around your neck. If you have noticed that your neck has started to wrinkle or the skin on your neck has started to look loose, then it may be time to consider a neck lift.

Your Neck Should Match Your Face

Many people choose to get facial work done to achieve a more youthful appearance. However, if you’re neck looks aged, then you won’t look quite as young. And who wants that? To get your neck to match your face, a neck lift may be recommended.

You Have Recently Lost A Lot of Weight

Losing weight is a great feat that is definitely worth celebrating. However, extreme weight loss can also lead to things like excess skin— even around the neck. If you have some loose skin, a neck lift can help to give you a more youthful appearance.

Neck lifts aren’t for everyone, but sometimes we recommend them to patients who are showing signs of aging, whose skin on their neck doesn’t match their face, or who have recently lost a lot of weight. If you want to learn more about neck lift surgery, schedule a consultation with Dr. Gary J. Price at our Guilford office and call us at (203) 453-6635.

3 Ways to Have a Speedier Neck Lift Recovery

Neck Lift Guilford, CTThere are some things that you can do to age a bit more gracefully like using good skin care products, avoiding the sun, and investing in skin care treatments. But no matter how hard you try to avoid aging, sooner or later it will catch up to you and often in the form of having excess skin on your face and neck. And although you can use fillers to help lift and tighten your face, your neck is a little different. With a surgical neck lift from Dr. Gary J. Price, however, he can lift and tighten the skin around the neck and give you back a more youthful appearance.

Just like with any surgical procedure, recovery is often the hardest part. Luckily, we have created a list of three tips to help speed up your recovery.

  1. Take It Easy

If you are the type of person who always has to be busy, then this step might be difficult for you, but it’s necessary. For at least a week or two after your neck lift, make sure that you are taking it easy— that means staying in bed, getting a lot of rest, and not doing any strenuous activities. This also is the perfect excuse to get your friends and family to dote on you.

  1. Keep Your Head Elevated

Make sure that when you’re sleeping during the night and resting during the day that you keep your head propped up and elevated— this will help get rid of any excess swelling or post-op fluid.

  1. Don’t Ignore Signs of Infection

Although infection is rare, it’s still good to be mindful of signs of infection. If you experience intense pain that doesn’t go away, an increase in swelling, bruising, discoloration, or puss at the incision site, then you may have an infection. Make sure that as soon as you notice any of these signs of infection that you call our office right away. Remember that the sooner we treat an infection, the easier it is to recover.

Getting a neck lift is a great way to help give you a more youthful appearance. To learn more about this procedure or to schedule a consultation, contact our office today and call us at: (203) 453-6635.

Kybella Vs. Neck Lift: The Ultimate Face Off

Kybella™ vs Necklift New Haven & Guilford CTWhen it comes to aging there is one thing everyone can agree upon; the double chin thing has got to go. However, as one of the most common side-effects of aging, your body starts to store fat in the most obnoxious places like your chin and your stomach. Luckily, there are two great options that can help you get rid of that nasty, unwanted neck fat: Kybella or a neck lift. So, what are these two procedures and how to they vary? Read on to learn more.

What’s the Diff?

The first thing to know about Kybella and a neck lift is that their main goal is to get rid of loose skin and fat around the neckline— leaving you without that dreaded turkey wattle. However, the next thing to be aware of is the unique differences— the most obvious difference being that Kybella is an injection and neck lift is a surgical procedure.

Kybella

Kybella is a non-invasive injection that is used to target the stubborn fat under your skin. Comprised of an all-natural substance called deoxycholic acid, Kybella will work to destroy the fat under your skin after about a total of six weeks. However, the results from Kybella will easily last you several years.

Neck Lift

During a neck lift, excess fat from under the chin will be suctioned out with liposuction. Additionally, the muscles and skin will be tightened to give you a more taut looking physique that will make you no longer reminisce about life in your twenties. Although a neck lift is a fairly invasive surgery, because it involves tightening the muscles and skin, patients see longer lasting results than with Kybella.

Depending on how severe the fat is under your chin, the results you want, and the time you have for the procedure, will help you and Dr. Gary J. Price land on the right decision for you. To learn more about these options or to schedule a consultation, contact Dr. Gary J. Price today at (203) 453-6635!

Love You, Love Your Neck

Rhytidectomy | Guilford CTIf you are a woman or man of a certain age, you may be noticing things about your neck that don’t exactly thrill you. A saggy, “turkey neck” is nothing to laugh about, and although you are not alone in having to deal with this very common condition, you may want to consider a lower Rhytidectomy.

What exactly is a Lower Rhytidectomy?
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons defines a Lower Rhytidectomy as a neck lift – a common plastic surgical procedure that can improve the visible signs of aging in the neck and jaw areas – signs that may include loose skin, excess fat, and relaxed skin resulting in jowls.

You may be surprised to notice that your neck seems to be aging faster than your face. This may be the result of cumulative sun damage, genetics or even weight loss. Whatever the reason, the unpleasing results are similar. You may not feel ready for a full facelift, however, and may find, as many of our clients do, that a neck lift provides amazing visible results.

A Lower Rhytidectomy typically includes two procedures, both used to enhance the appearance of your neck:

  • Cervicoplasty removes your excess skin
  • Platysmaplasty removes or alters your neck muscles
  • Liposuction may also be included in your neck lift procedure to remove unwanted fat that’s often found under the chin. Botox injections may also be used to reduce the appearance of lines on you neck.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Price will discuss your goals and expectations with you. He will also ensure that you would be a good candidate for this procedure. It also is important to meet with Dr. Price so that he can best address your desires and concerns. The good news is, you can love your neck again.

A good place to start on your neck-loving journey, is by calling our office to schedule a consultation appointment: (203) 453-6635 or by visiting us.

Consider The Differences: A Neck Lift And A Facelift

facelift and neck lift in Guildford Connecticut | Dr. Gary Price MDThe neck lift and the facelift are two of the most effective cosmetic surgical procedures for enhancing the appearance of an aging neck and face…they are also two of the most popular procedures. Both produce long-lasting results; both share similar degrees of invasiveness and recovery periods; both result in significant improvement to saggy skin and weak muscles around the face and neck. Dr. Price often combines them into a single procedure which results in the amazing, age-defying benefits of both.

A neck lift procedure pulls excess skin under the chin, jawline, and jowls – the area commonly called the “turkey neck.” Incisions are generally placed behind the ears and below the chin. There are various types of facelift surgeries, but most plastic surgeons describe the facelift procedure as pulling up the skin at the cheeks, toward the forehead. Incisions are made primarily in front of the ear. The facelift focuses on improving the cheeks, double chins and the lower face. It reduces wrinkles and corrects sagging skin in those specific areas.

For most patients, improvements from these procedures are noticeable within days of the surgery. Visible bruising and swelling gradually disappear, and most patients are socially “presentable” after two weeks.

Would you benefit from one or both of these procedures?

  • To mimic a neck lift, place your fingers below your jawline, outside your jaw, and push upward and back.
  • To mimic a facelift, place your fingers at the top of your cheekbones and push your skin upward and back.

Dr. Price caters to the surgical needs of both men and women, and can help you decide which procedure would be best suited for you. Call, today, to schedule a consultation: (203) 453-6635.

Your Sagging Neck – The 411

Well, the holidays are over and we’ve all had enough of turkey and egg nog. It’s time for some self-reflection. If your reflection whispers “turkey waddles” and your jiggly, waddly neck is causing you frustration, take heart, you are not alone. Our necks are one of the first places we show our age…saggy, loose skin shows up out of the blue and does nothing for our self-confidence.

neck lift surgery in guilford ctA popular cosmetic surgical procedure, the neck lift, also known as a cervicoplasty or platysmaplasty, is an appealing alternative to living with your waddles. A neck lift tightens the skin and underlying muscles of your neck and improves the contour of your jawline. During the procedure, an incision is made beginning at the level of the sideburns at the hairline and continues along the area around the ear, ending at the back of the hair. The neck skin is lifted and excess fat may be repositioned or sculpted to achieve optimum results. The neck muscle is tightened and the underlying neck tissues are repositioned.
As a less invasive alternative to a facelift, a neck lift can produce dramatic results.

Before surgery:
• Clarify your goals and your expectations.
• During your initial consultation, we will explain your options and go over your expectations.
• As with any surgery, you must be in good health. If you are a smoker, try to cut back, or better yet, quit.
• You will need to take time off work and arrange for help at home, if that is appropriate.
• Be sure to tell us any medications you take or any health concerns you may have.

After surgery:
• Improvement is noticeable within days of the surgery. Visible bruising and swelling gradually disappear, and most patients can resume social activities after two weeks.
• You should avoid heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for a few weeks.
• Eat well, drink lots of water, take it easy, rest and pamper yourself.

Now is the perfect time to call for a consultation with Dr. Price…meet with him and let him explain more about this confidence-changing procedure: (203) 453-6635.

What is your neck saying about you?

neck lift in guilford ct and new havenYour neck would say your face gets all the attention
Most of us monitor signs of aging by watching for wrinkles and sagging skin on our faces. And when we notice something unpleasant, we might step up our skin care or seek out one of the many surgical or non- surgical options that are available to help us look as young as we feel.

Patients say they’re often surprised when they start noticing the condition of their necks, with some reporting that it seems like their necks age even faster than their faces.

It’s the area that goes unnoticed that shouldn’t go unnoticed

And it might be something a lot of us are missing. Because it’s hiding there, in the shadow of our chins, and can be an area that often gets neglected, even as we seek methods to improve our appearance.

Your neck doesn’t want to be a turkey

Thanks to the same aging process that shows on our faces, the skin around the neck becomes loose and crepey. To add insult to injury, our muscles weaken, and excess fat can create neck creases and a “gobble” under the chin.

Your neck is ready to be the star

If you’ve realized that your neck is not telling the right story about you, it might be time to learn about a lower rhytidectomy, or neck lift, a surgical procedure that can improve the look of your jawline and your neck. And within days of the surgery, improvement in neck and jaw contour can be noticeable.

There might be reason you ignore your neck

Many of our patients associate necks lifts with full facelifts, and they aren’t always ready for that. But a neck lift is a separate procedure and is growing in popularity among women and men.

Your neck wants you to take the first step

Schedule a consultation appointment by calling (203) 453-6653. You can meet with Dr. Price, discuss the surgery and your goals — and decide if a neck lift is the right choice for you. Your neck will talk better about you.
